Work Party

January 13, 2001 Major Ivy Removal Project near Waterfall

A crew of volunteers from AmeriCorps and Friends of Frink Park led by EarthCorps tackled a major ivy removal along the slopes south of the waterfall. We made incredible progress with over 300 hours of volunteer time. We even found a resident (pictured on the left)  who appreciated our effort to restore the native plants in the park.  Aside from removing ivy and protecting the slope, we also removed a lot of garbage. The work will be continued with more volunteers on Martin Luther King Day on 1/15. Meet us at the waterfall from 9am - 1pm.
Here is a picture of the crew beginning to roll the ivy down the hillside.
A large bundle of ivy was carried up the slope to be picked up by the Seattle Parks Dept.

Trash removed from the slope included a car door, a couple of  trash bags of bottles and cans. We even found someone's Visa card from 1980.
